Monday 29th October 2018

We were up at 6am for a 645 breakfast. We were collected at 8am (10pm Sunday UK time) and heading straight for the airport.

We had an easy check in and a hour to relax before boarding. The flight was with KLM this time with a better selection of movies to get us through!

The flight went over well. We were straight off that flight onto the next.

See you in Newcastle.

We would like to say a huge thank you to you parents for supporting this visit to China. We have made so many memories. Your sons are a credit to you all - we have enjoyed spending time with them and getting to know them more over the last 10 days.

It’s been a blast! 🇨🇳

After a 12 hour sleep for most we were raring to go.  We were served a wonderful Chinese breakfast before meeting our buddies who accompanied us to the Hero (Iron Man) Museum. They, along with a guide helped us to understand the life of Weng Jingxi - a national hero for brining Oil to Daqing. We learnt about his trials and tribulations and why he was given the name ‘Iron Man’. We then travelled straight to the Science Museum to learn the logistics behind extracting the oil and how different methods are used in different areas. We then returned to school to be collected by our hosting families. We were all very nervous about visiting the family homes, we went in pairs and were taken there and back by their parents. The majority of us made traditional dumplings which we then ate. We had the opportunity to ask questions about their way of life and their schooling. We started the day with breakfast at our hotel before heading out  at 830am  for the day. Our first stop was around an hour drive from our hotel - the Jade Market.  We were introduced to our host who told us a little bit about how the Jade is made into the sculptures that we could see around us.  We spent a little time watching some employees sculpting the Jade, it looked really difficult, the workers are certainly skilled! We then spent some time in their shop - it was all very expensive but we managed to make a few purchases. It was then time to head to the main attraction - The Great Wall. It was about a further 30 minutes by coach. We parked up and headed to the entrance. Peter told us some facts and figures while we were on our way. Looking up at the vast crawling walls it was difficult to believe that 6000km of this was built 500BC. Another early start for breakfast so that we could be in the junior high school to meet our Chinese buddies. They took us to their first and second lessons with them, each lesson lasting 40 minutes. The students in China remain in the same classroom all day and their teachers come to them. The size of the classes range from 40 - 60 students. We were all in different lessons but between us we saw Chinese, English, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, History and PE.  At 9.40 the whole school went outside for morning exercise. We were gobsmacked at how quickly so many students got into their positions and also very proud that the boys joined in (we have video evidence to prove it don’t we Harry!). After morning exercise we went back to class for two more lessons. We were once again overwhelmed with the gifts received from the Chinese students - we are not sure how we are going to fit everything in the case - we haven’t even been shopping in Beijing yet.
